Rowing Information |
|
TrainingTraining takes place on the water all the year round (river conditions permitting). During the summer months, there is usually rowing each evening from 7:00pm and from 8:30am at the weekends. During the winter land training takes place in the evenings with only experienced rowers being allowed on the water in the dark. We have approximately 3200 meters of water to row on between Bray lock and Boulters lock, although this is restricted to the 2000 meters below Maidenhead bridge when there is a strong stream flowing or there is a large amount of other river traffic making the stretch above Maidenhead bridge too congested. Click here to see a map of the Maidenhead Reach. The club regularly attends Regattas in the summer and Head Races (time trials) during the winter. The club has a long racing pedigree having being represented at all levels in many classes of boat. For those that are new to the sport, we run regular induction sessions and learn to row courses from time to time. On completion of the learn to row course typically you would join the novice squad to row in crew boats (usually fours) or perhaps you may wish to scull. Once your rowing develops or for those that have rowed before there are mens and womens squads - these squads trian for competitive rowing racing at regattas and head races. The club has a very strong junior contigent having strong links with local schools. The club is part of the Amateur Rowing Association's "Project Oarsome" initiative, as such we have received funding for the purchase of 7 boats specifically for juniors. There is also a veteran squad that rows on Sunday mornings (in rowing you are a veteran at 31!)
